Thrift Store Remix
My paintings are my response to music typically jazz and the avant-garde. I hear a work of music and I start to imagine colour, shapes and forms. Then I draw these abstract shapes and paint them on the canvas. These works represent a form of remixing through visualizing the sound into a painting.
The Thrift Store Remix paintings follow this idea, with a twist. I find the original thrift store artworks intriguing. Their decorative framing and the prints of the formal paintings inside them tantalize me. I’m also fascinated by the shift in perspective as these inexpensive decorative works move from the wall to the thrift store. I believe it is an invitation for me as an artist to make them mine.
